Simone Buffa is an Energy Engineer with around 10 years of experience in EU-funded projects. He graduated from the University of Pisa and holds a PhD in Sustainable Energy and Technologies from the Free University of Bolzano-Bozen. He carried out his PhD studies and post-doc period at the Institute for Renewable Energies of EURAC Research (Sustainable Heating and Cooling Group), collaborating with the University of Colorado-Boulder on the development and test of AI-based predictive control strategies for heat pump substations connected to a 5th Generation District Heating and Cooling (5GDHC) network. He has contributed to several research projects in the field of energy efficiency in buildings, heat pumps and low-grade waste heat recovery in DH systems.
Since 2021, he has been working on EU-funded projects for CiviESCo, the Energy Service Company (ESCo) founded by CiviBank. In 2023 Simone joined R2M Solution, with the role of project manager and Business Developer in the Innovation Division.

Simone Buffa is active on research about digitalization, smart controls solutions, cutting-edge technologies for buildings renovation and sector coupling, with the ambitious goals to fight energy poverty and climate changes through greater penetration of renewables and lower energy consumptions.
