Results from the application of smart‑ready technologies

Rehva Journal Oct24_SRI and la Forgiatura case with AI application on HVAC system.

The article we published in REHVA Journal presents the results from real-life application of artificial intelligence building service technology to HVAC systems in a medium-scale pilot building in Italy, showcasing energy efficiency improvements, before and after SRI assessments, and the concept of smart ready communities.

The Smart Square Project and Its Objectives

Smart Square is a R2M European Project that operates to enhance building smartness through the new Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI). The project aims to develop tools and services that will serve as a facilitator to promote the adoption of smart-ready technologies across EU member states. By integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, the project seeks to improve building performance and sustainability. key pilot site for this initiative is La Forgiatura, a renovated business park in Milan, which exemplifies the application of smart technologies in real-life scenarios. The article presents the activities carried on for the project at La Forgiatura.

Implementation of AI in HVAC Systems

At La Forgiatura, AI-driven technologies have been applied to HVAC systems, showcasing significant improvements in energy efficiency. The project involved collaboration between R2M Solution and Brainbox AI to install and optimize smart solutions that enhance operational performance. These technologies enable features such as predictive controls, fault detection, and optimization based on environmental data. The results indicate promising energy savings and a streamlined management process, benefiting facility managers and building owners alike.

Smart Ready GO for the SRI assessment at La Forgiatura

Smart Ready Go! is a web-based platform designed for building assessors and real estate managers to facilitate, manage, and deliver Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) assessments. The platform was implemented at La Forgiatura to facilitate the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) assessments, enhancing the building’s smart capabilities. The platform was essential for conducting evaluations of the building’s energy systems, allowing for a detailed analysis of HVAC functionalities and overall building performance.

Future Directions and Enhancements

The example of La Forgiatura shows how the ongoing development of smart-ready technologies is essential for achieving sustainability targets in building management. The SRI provides a standardized methodology for assessing building smartness, and facilitating discussions among stakeholders about the integration of these technologies. The continuous evolution of AI applications in HVAC systems is anticipated, with further enhancements scheduled for the coming years. This progressive approach not only aims to improve energy efficiency but also fosters a deeper understanding of smart building capabilities and their potential impact on the environment.
