Motivation & Impact
Vocational training for the construction sector in Europe has been chosen by R2M and IIPLE as it still accounts for a low or very limited adoption of digital tools for learning and education delivery. Building professionals (designers, architects, civil engineers, etc.), learn tools such as BIM, scanning technologies, etc. during their academic journey. This is not the case for the workers operating at the construction site: usually, setting up a building or an infrastructure, working from scaffolds and/or using machines (cranes, excavators, loaders, etc.) is done without the support of any digital tools.
In Europe, an uneven situation is also mirrored on the use of digital tools (including XR ones) empowering the learning courses delivered by Vocational Education and Training (VET) schools. While some VETs have implemented EdTech in their courses, the majority have no experience. In addition, teachers and trainers need dedicated support at IT level and it might not always be available at schools.
Key TEXIVOS expected Impacts are three:
– teachers and trainers of VET schools are supported on how to empower courses and learning modules with XR tools;
– school dropout rate in the construction sector is mitigated, thanks to an increase of the engagement level of learners (especially teenagers);
– a European construction sectorembracing innovation and digitalization at all levels, including workers’ education and learning.
Role of R2M
Thanks to its expertise in the construction sector (at innovation and IT level), R2M Italy coordinates the project and support IIPLE in defining the IT requirements needed to test the existing XR tools provided by XR4ED project within new learning modules. R2M also cooperates with IIPLE on feedback collection from teachers/trainers and learners (after the modules delivery) and the analysis of the replicability opportunities at market exploitation level.
