Motivation & Impact
R2M wants to invest in this project because it believes that there are great opportunities for the DC market, particularly in Italy. We think that the DC system can be very useful and interesting in the Italian context, because in Italy the summers are often very hot, but the DC systems are not developed completely yet. Furthermore, they are still rare. Consider that the DC systems can facilitate the integration with renewable energy sources or through absorption chillers they can exploit the rejected heat that otherwise would be wasted.
Role of R2M
Our role in the project is both technical and non-technical. From the technical point of view, we are developing dynamic energy models of the buildings. In particular, we are dealing with the model of the cooling demand from the point of view of the building envelope. Therefore we are modeling the envelope characteristics, its geometry, the internal thermal loads, the weather data. From the non-technical point of view, we are dealing with the dissemination, i.e. with the diffusion of ideas and concepts that are developed in the project. Moreover, we are dealing with the exploitation, i.e. we want the developed ideas not to die at the end of the project, but we want that they will have practical applications, in order to improve the DC systems really.
