CALECHE

Coherent, Acceptable, Low Emission Cultural Heritage Efficient Renovation

CALECHE aims to develop a decision support system (DSS) linked to specific protocols for the renovation of historic buildings. This DSS will implement a people-centered, holistic and multi-benefit approach. CALECHE will focus on improving the performance of three promising technologies and techniques for the energy renovation of historic buildings: 1. Interior bio-insulation with high hygrometric performance 2. Methodology for window conservation and repair 3. Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) By developing this DSS and improving these three technologies, CALECHE aims to enable the renovation of historic buildings in a way that preserves cultural value, increases energy efficiency, and promotes public acceptance of innovative solutions.
With around a quarter of Europe’s building stock bearing the distinguished title of ‘historical,’ the CALECHE project was born out of necessity. These structures represent our collective history and are integral to the identity of cities and communities across the continent. However, the survival of these buildings hinges on their continued relevance and adaptation to contemporary living standards—this is where CALECHE steps in.
