The Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) is an assessment method introduced by the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD 844/2018) and reinforced with the EPBD IV revision. This tool measures a building’s smart readiness, promoting automated system management to reduce energy consumption, enhance comfort, and accelerate the ecological transition in the building sector.
The European Smart Square, funded by the European Union, develops cloud-based tools to assess building intelligence, supporting SRI implementation in all official EU languages and adapting to national specificities. With the introduction of EPBD IV, SRI will become mandatory for non-residential buildings with heating systems exceeding 290 kW starting from July 2027.
