“Scaling Super-Heero,” is launched. The project introduces an alternative funding model for energy efficiency and retrofitting in schools, public buildings, shopping centres, and other buildings. Through a participatory investment model involving and engaging local communities, Scaling Super-Heero supports energy retrofitting. The EU has recognized it as an innovative project that substantially contributes to Europe’s energy transition.
Milan, September 5, 2024 – We are thrilled to announce the launch of “Scaling Super-Heero,” an ambitious project funded by the EU’s LIFE program. This project is a natural continuation of the success achieved by Super-Heero, a project that pioneered grassroots financial innovation for the supermarket sector.
A Continuing Success
This new project aims to build on the innovations and results of Super-Heero, expanding the impact of energy efficiency to a wider scale by involving not only supermarkets but also schools, sports centres, shopping malls, hotels, and restaurants.
The Super-Heero crowdlending model has proven its effectiveness in NaturaSì supermarkets in Verona, Pordenone, and Ponte S. Nicolò (PA), where the pilot project successfully raised €185,534 in funding and involved about 200 investors. This enabled energy efficiency work and the installation of photovoltaic systems, resulting in energy savings of 175 MWh and a reduction of emissions by up to 75 tons of CO2 per year – the equivalent of 7,516 trees.
This new project aims to overcome existing barriers, such as high upfront costs for businesses and lack of access to adequate financing, by offering practical and scalable solutions.
Main Goals of Scaling Super-Heero
Scaling Super-Heero aims to support various stakeholders and companies in implementing energy efficiency measures through innovative financial models and advanced technological solutions, involving customers and the local community as financiers and members of energy communities. The project’s main goals include:
- Expansion of the Super-Heero Model: To widely promote the energy efficiency model based on Energy Performance Contracts or Operational Leasing, making it accessible to an even larger number of entities across Italy.
- Financial Innovation: To develop and promote financial tools that facilitate the adoption of energy-efficient technologies, reducing initial costs and improving return on investment.
- Engagement of Local Communities: Strengthening the role of local communities in supporting the places they frequent daily through crowdfunding initiatives and local cooperation.
- Awareness and Training: Increasing awareness of the importance of energy efficiency and renewables, equipping various entities with the necessary skills to adopt sustainable solutions and reduce CO2 emissions.
