Motivation & Impact
In order to promote and develop the districts’ transition to Plus Energy, and to adopt a global approach that takes into account the different technical and social aspects, the Making PEDs project aims to achieve the following set objectives.
1) Participatory approach: involvement of the Urban Living Labs for the identification and analysis of the needs of the main stakeholders and end users.
2) Use of 3D models and CityGML standards: digital models will be an essential tool in the user’s hands to operate a large-scale transition, taking into account environmental, economic aspects and energy analyzes at an urban district level.
3) Integrated visualization platform: development of a platform through which the end user can manage the energy transition of the district, starting from the initial phases of decision making, through the integration of digital models and a Decision Support System that helps the analysis and classification of different future renovation scenarios.
4) Good practices: results and methods, as well as the tools developed, can be extended throughout the EU area based on CityGML standards. The tests in the 4 different ULLs will be exemplified as good practices and translated into guidelines as a means to amplify their impact and facilitate adoption beyond the project.
Role of R2M
– Developement of the Decision Support System (DSS). This consists of the creation of mock-ups (engine + UI) of the Making PEDs Decision Support System (DSS) for early design of interventions at district level towards the creation of Climate Neutral PEDs. The DSS will be GIS-based and developed, following the requirements collected by potential end-users, as a web application and provided with basic assessing capabilities for scenarios comparison as (i) ranking of future scenarios integrating different technology packages/solutions toolkits and (ii) best practices/guidelines for PEDs creation.
