Marco Calderoni

Technical Manager/Renewable energy systems Expert
Marco Calderoni graduated in 2003 in Mechanical Engineering with expertise in energy at Politecnico di Milano and has been working as a researcher ever since 2003. He has always been committed to the sector of renewable energies, in particular thermal renewables. Since 2012 he has also been involved in district heating, as an ideal energy vector for the collection of locally available renewable sources. He was employed for six years at Ambiente Italia s.r.l., where he worked mainly on solar thermal, from a technological perspective and in dissemination and transfer of knowledge between European countries. From 2009 to 2018 he was a researcher at the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano, where he was responsible for the research group on solar thermal and district heating. He has also enlarged his knowledge with projects related to heat pumps, both electricity and heat driven. During his professional career Marco has been involved in many European projects, from the conception and writing of the proposal to the realization phase. He has designed and implemented numerous cooperation projects with low-income countries (mainly in North Africa and the Middle East), focusing on the transfer of knowledge on renewable energy sources. He has been a member of several International Energy Agency “Tasks” (also as subtask leader), as well as of the European Technology Platforms (ETIPs) on solar thermal (ESTTP) and district heating (DHC+). He is currently chairman of ESTTP and board member of the Renewable Heating and Cooling ETIP. He has also advised local public administrations and national public bodies in the design of financing mechanisms for funding renewable energy technologies. Marco regularly reviews scientific articles for conferences and journals and participates as a speaker and moderator in events on solar thermal and district heating.
